As a Starbucks obsessed millennial, I too was intrigued when they started posting the photos and videos of clouds to their social media. What do the clouds mean? And what does Ariana Grande have to do with it? #thankyounext
Well, Starbucks released a new drink this morning called the Cloud Macchiato, available in Caramel and Cinnamon flavours. And Ariana Grande is the face of the drink, due to her love of clouds and Starbucks. Check out her socials, peep the cloud emojis ☁️
This begs the question: what is the “cloud” part of the Cloud Macchiato???
When I asked at Starbucks, I was told that it was a smoother, velvety-er type of foam. According to CNN, the cloud foam is made from “cloud powder” which includes egg whites and milk, creating a merengue-like foam. Inspired by a Spanish drink, leche merengada, the cloud foam can be used both on hot and cold beverages.
I didn’t try one of the Cloud Macchiatos, but I did order my standard blonde vanilla latte with cloud foam instead of regular foam. And I’m super into it! The foam definitely resembled a merengue texture and was thicker than the regular foam. It was a very smooth texture and taste. I would ask for cloud foam again and I may even try the Caramel Cloud Macchiato. Is it an earth-shattering idea? No, but it is a very innovative product. Cloud foam is, in my opinion, a fun addition to the Starbucks menu.
