Brew Review: Starbucks Christmas Blend

Is there anything better than the holiday season at Starbucks?

Their speciality holiday flavoured drinks, cute snowman cookies, and red and green themed tumblers really just get me in the mood for the holidays! The day they release their peppermint mocha is one I look forward to every year and save my rewards for. Today however, I did not get my favourite holiday drink, I instead tried their featured Christmas Blend. Starbucks always has a featured brew and with their holiday flavours in full swing, it is only logical to have a Christmas themed coffee blend. So, I gave it a try.

Taste: ☕️ Not my favourite

Price: 💰💰 As expected

Presentation:⭐️ Nothing special, just a cup of coffee

The Christmas Blend is advertised as being “Spicy and Sweet”.  In my opinion, it was far spicier than it was sweet. I couldn’t taste any sweetness, but I could certainly taste the spiciness. It had a very strong smell of a unique blend of spices that I could not quite put my finger on. I didn’t love the prominent smell or taste of the spices. The blend features rare aged Sumatra, which I had never heard of before. According to the Starbucks website, it is from Asia-Pacific region and tastes of “lingering flavours of dried herbs and fresh earth, and almost no acidity”.  I found that to be an accurate description, as the taste was not acidic and the flavour of the herbs had a lingering quality. Personally, I did not enjoy the blend of spices, nor how overpowering they were throughout the blend. I didn’t hate this blend, but I would not order it again. I much prefer the smooth classic taste of their Pike blend. If you want to try something new, or are a fan of unique tastes and spicy flavours, by all means give this a try.
